Barney dusts off his “playbook” to help him back into the dating scene following his breakup with Robin.
After Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin hit a rough patch in their relationship, Lily devises the perfect plan to break them up, calling in help from Robin’s famous friend, Alan Thicke.
Despite their best efforts to be the perfect couple, Barney’s know-it-all attitude gets him in trouble with Robin and they are forced to ask Marshall and Lily for relationship advice
Barney wants Robin to become an American citizen; Lily joins Marshall and Ted on their road trip.
Their hopeless desire to please makes it hard for Marshall and Lily to double date. Meanwhile, a string of girls fall asleep at Ted’s apartment.
Ted realizes his blind date is the same girl he had a blind date with seven years prior. Meanwhile, the rest of the gang discover a Lily look-alike at a strip club.
When Marshall and the gang finds out that Barney and Robin are hesitant to define their relationship, Lily forces them to confront their biggest fear. Meanwhile, Ted is anxious about teaching his first lecture at Columbia.
